Heartbeat of Home: An Irish, Latin and Afro-Cuban Music and Dance Spectacular

On Wednesday, we had the amazing opportunity to see the East Coast debut of Heartbeat of Home at Boston’s Citi Performing Arts Center Wang Theatre. My husband and I took our three and a half year old son to the performance, and we were all completely enchanted.
Some of the highlights of the night were our son's insightful comments and reactions to the show:- As he watched the extremely talented Irish step dancers deliver a powerful performance, he asked, "Do they have magic feet, Mama?"Thanks to the speed, precision, and heart pounding rhythm of the dancers, I was not surprised at all by his question.- As he watched a dancer seemingly float across the stage as part of a beautiful duet, he asked if she was an angel.- As he listened to the ten-piece band's joyful and exuberant music, he literally could not sit still in his seat. He was dancing, clapping, and drumming on his legs and the arms of the chair in response.- As he listened to a soulful song by a soloist, he said the song sounded like sunshine.
The performance was attended by so many children, and I couldn't help but think what a gift it was for them to be exposed to such powerful and diverse sounds and sights from different parts of the world. The creators of Riverdance really brought us all a multicultural extravaganza, and I highly recommend this show to parents who are looking for a theatre experience that the entire family can thoroughly enjoy.
Here is a preview of the show:

It is amazing to think of where all of the talent in this show came from. The creators of the show invited Irish, Latin (Tango and Salsa), Flameco, Afro Cuban (Tap, Lyrical) and Street dancers from around the world to film their auditions and upload them to YouTube for the attention of the judges. Submissions were received from dancers in seventeen countries. 2.2 million visitors from 169 countries cast 1.7 million votes. Using the public voting sytem, the judges chose twenty dancers to come to Dublin, Ireland for auditions. This show is such an amazing opportunity to see a variety of dancing from the best of the best from around the world.
If you are looking for a theatre experience that offers incredible music, beautiful dance in many forms, excitement, sizzle, and just a ton of heart and soul, please be sure to catch this show before it leaves the Boston area. It has already wowed audiences around the world in Ireland, China, Canada, Detroit, and Chicago.
