The Morning After Election Day: A Mother's Perspective

The Morning After the Election: A Mother's PerspectiveI know I'm not alone right now in feeling profound sadness, fear, and shock.I know I'm not the only one who had to share election results this morning with two very small faces filled with hope and then watched those beautiful faces crumble into tears.I'm sure many of us held our little ones in bed this morning and told them this:- It is more important than ever to be kind and good to others. It is more important than ever to help and be the kind of person you want to see more of in the world.I know I'm not the only one who talked to her children about the power of words -- about how words can hurt, and how once they are said, they can't be unheard.I'm sure I'm not the only one who told her daughter that maybe now she will be the first woman president.I know I'm not the only one who is reminding herself this morning that we ALL belong to each other. That we ALL matter, and that we need to be there for each other right now and always.I really believe - because I can't imagine the alternative of not believing - that we each still and always will have so much power within us. Our potential to love and help and empathize and use our voices is limitless. If there's ever been a time to live up to our potential and model for our children the kinds of citizens and leaders we want to see in our world, it is now.Sending love to everyone today.
