A Letter to My Three Year Old Son

Dear Big Brother,You are three years old now, and I just can't believe it. I have clear memories of being three, and it is amazing to me that my beautiful, beloved boy and firstborn child is now of an age that I can remember being.
3 Years Old
This last year was a big one for you because you really grew into your role of big brother. After 23 months of Big Brother and Mama time - almost every moment of every single day - you embraced this major life change with all that you had. Little Sister adores you more than anyone in the world, and I have been so proud of how much room you have made in your heart for her. I will forever be grateful for those 23 months I had to focus on you and only you, but I have also loved watching you flourish as your role in our family has evolved.
Your big heart, thoughtful ways, and amazingly creative imagination stand out in everything you do. You tell wonderful stories, love being told stories, and continue to love books. Your favorite things in the world are cars and trucks and cats, and your friendship with our cats is legendary.
I could listen to you talk - and actually do listen to you talk - all. day. long. You are a huge chatterbox, which fascinates me since I am the furthest thing from being one myself. I love your running commentary and insight into our world and constantly wish I could just have a running recording of all of the wise, hilarious, and loving things that seem to come out of your mouth at breakneck speed.
You have been a very affectionate boy since you were a baby and to our delight, you continue to be this way. You love your family, you love to snuggle, and you love to express your love for all of us in so many ways.
Your intellect amazes us on a daily basis, and we love your curiosity and obsession with learning.
When we look back at who you were as a two year old and newly turned three year old years from now, I have no doubt that one of the things that will stand out most is your obsession with cars and how it has lovingly infiltrated all of our lives. You have nicknamed your family members and best friends with names from Disney Cars, and over the past nine months or so, you have very rarely deviated from calling us these names. You can imagine the laughs we get from people when they hear you seriously refer to us with these names. Some of the best examples are:Mama = FloDada = LightningLittle Sister = RamoneGrandpa Rohm = SnotrodYou have seen the Cars movies a few times, but your obsession really stems from the books and characters that you have breathed all kinds of new life into with your vivid imagination.
It is nothing short of pure joy to watch you grow and evolve every single day, and I am so, so proud of the person that you are. Thank you for all of the laughs and smiles, and most importantly, thank you for being such a kind and loving person. You make me want to be a better person every day.MW,MamaThis post is linked up at The Tuesday Baby Link Up and Tender Moments with Toddlers & Preschoolers Blog Hop #21.
